Voters Reject Data Center Expansion as Democrats Win Control of Congress

Source: Reuters

AI infrastructure just picked up a political speed limit. NBC exit polling found that 75% of voters opposed data centers in their communities, while Democrats won control of Congress and candidates campaigning against large computing facilities prevailed in several states. Texas became the biggest test after Gina Hinojosa won the governor's race on a platform that included halting or restricting new data center construction, putting permitting, tax incentives, and energy policy under fresh scrutiny. In Ohio, at least 14 municipalities approved bans or other restrictions, amid 21 local ballot measures and an existing tally of 125 local moratoriums. Investors reacted quickly, with AI infrastructure stocks falling as markets priced in permitting delays, subsidy changes, antitrust scrutiny, and higher compliance costs. The core concerns are physical and local: electricity demand, water use, noise, land consumption, and higher utility bills. The market is repricing the AI buildout, while developers now need community consent as much as they need chips (read more).

OpenAI’s Images 2.6 Brings Native GIF Creation, Frame Editing, and Faster Image Generation to ChatGPT

Source: OpenAI

ChatGPT can now turn a prompt or uploaded photo into an animated GIF without sending users through a separate editing app. OpenAI began rolling out Images 2.6 on November 4 across ChatGPT and Codex experiences, with access extending to web, desktop, and mobile. Users can adjust playback speed, inspect individual frames, revise selected frames, and share the finished loop, giving conversational image generation a much more practical editing workflow. OpenAI also introduced 2 API models for developers, although the available material doesn't establish that the API versions create GIFs in exactly the same way as ChatGPT. The company says users generate more than 4 billion images each week, creating a huge audience for testing whether frame-level editing becomes a habit rather than a novelty. The release arrives as Google pushes Nano Banana Pro and as OpenAI competes on speed, control, and convenience instead of just single-image quality. OpenAI's release brings animation into the chat workflow, where a still image can now acquire a little motion and, occasionally, a little too much personality (read more).

Apple Begins Testing Watch AI That Rewinds Conversations Alongside New Health Features

Source: Apple

Apple is testing an opt-in Apple Watch feature that could turn forgotten instructions and missed remarks into retrievable memories. The first developer betas of iOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3 introduce Siri Recap, which summarizes nearby speech, and Live Rewind, which lets users revisit something recently said through the watch microphone. The tools are designed for Apple Watch Series 12 and move the device beyond responding to explicit commands, since it can listen in the background and reconstruct conversations afterward. That usefulness brings privacy directly into the product: consent, bystander awareness, storage, processing, battery use and clear listening indicators will all shape whether people trust it. Apple is also testing a new Health app in the same software cycle. The features remain in developer testing, with a wider iOS 27.3 release expected in December, so controls and implementation details can still change (read more).
