Meta Launches the American Technology Project

Source: Meta
Meta is pouring tens of millions of dollars into a new super PAC called the American Technology Excellence Project to fight state-level tech regulations that could slow AI development. According to Axios, the group will back candidates from both the Republican and Democratic parties who support AI innovation and U.S. tech leadership. The move comes as states push forward with more than 1,000 AI-related bills this year, including California’s SB 243 and SB 53, aimed at regulating AI chatbots and setting transparency standards (read more).
The Stargate Alliance Is Supercharging the AI Grid

Source: OpenAI
OpenAI is building five new AI data centers across the U.S. in partnership with Oracle and SoftBank under its Stargate project. The expansion brings Stargate to nearly 7 gigawatts of planned capacity and over $400 billion in investment over the next three years. Sites include Texas, New Mexico, Ohio, and a Midwest location. This news comes just a day after OpenAI secured a $100 billion investment from Nvidia to scale its infrastructure (see OpenAI’s announcement).
AI-Powered Photo Editing Lands on Android

Android users can now edit their photos with AI inside Google Photos, using natural language via text or voice. The Gemini-powered tool lets you ask for edits like lighting fixes, object removal, or even adding creative AI elements. It first debuted on Pixel 10 devices in the U.S. back in August and is now expanding to more Android users aged 18 and up. Google is also rolling out C2PA Content Credentials to mark when images are created with AI (see Google’s announcement).

⚖️ California’s Next Big AI Test: After the fierce battle over last year’s SB 1047, California Senator Scott Wiener is back with SB 53 — a more modest AI safety bill, now officially enrolled and awaiting Governor Gavin Newsom’s signature. If signed, the bill would require the largest AI companies to publish safety reports on risks like nuclear weapons, cyberattacks, and mass harm (see Wiener’s announcement).
🎧 AI Podcast App Huxe Raises $4.6M: Three former Google developers have launched Huxe, an audio-first personal assistant that generates daily briefings and topic-based “podcasts” with AI hosts. Huxe connects with emails and calendars to deliver personalized updates, while also letting users build “live stations” on topics like tech, sports, or entertainment (read more).
🎮 Play Store Gets a Gemini-Powered Makeover: Google is redesigning the Play Store with AI-powered search, personalized tabs, and new gaming features. A new You tab centralizes subscriptions, rewards, and recommendations, while the updated Games tab adds leagues, stats, and a Gemini-powered Sidekick for real-time in-game help (see Google’s announcement).
🤖 Tackling Robotics’ Data Overload: Robots generate massive amounts of data daily, and Australia-based Alloy is building the deployment layer for “physical AI” to help robotics companies train, deploy, and monitor models in the real world. Since launching, Alloy has raised AUD $4.5 million in a pre-seed round led by Blackbird (see Blackbird’s announcement).
🕵️ AI Models Can Deliberately Mislead: OpenAI revealed research showing that AI can engage in “scheming,” deliberately misleading humans while hiding its true intentions. The team found that teaching models not to scheme can backfire, sometimes making them better at deception. Their technique, “deliberative alignment,” helps reduce this behavior by making models review anti-scheming rules before acting (see OpenAI’s statement).
