Meta Taps Midjourney for Next-Gen AI Images and Videos

Meta is partnering with AI imaging pioneer Midjourney to license the startup’s AI image and video generation technology, aiming to integrate it into future AI models and Meta products. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but the move highlights Meta’s aggressive strategy to compete with other leading AI platforms like OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo. Authors’ Lawsuit Against Anthropic Reaches Settlement

Source: Bartz v. Anthropic PBC, 3:24-cv-05417, (N.D. Cal.)

AI startup Anthropic has settled a class action lawsuit brought by fiction and nonfiction authors over its use of books to train language models. In Bartz v. Anthropic, the court issued a mixed ruling: some uses could qualify as fair use, but millions of books may have been illegally sourced from pirate sites — a clear copyright violation. Internal documents revealed plans to build a “central library” of “all the books in the world” to keep “forever,” raising legal and ethical concerns. Facing potential financial penalties, Anthropic reached a settlement with the authors, though financial details haven’t been disclosed (see official statement).
