iPhone 17 Drops, But AI’s Big Debut Is in Your Ears

Source: Apple
Apple unveiled the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and a new ultra-thin iPhone Air — but AI barely made the spotlight. The most notable AI feature wasn’t for the phones at all, but for AirPods 3, which are getting real-time translation. Meanwhile, Siri was absent from the event, even as competitors like Google push ahead with more advanced AI on their devices. Reports suggest Apple may lean on third-party AI models, such as Google Gemini, to fill the gap (watch Apple’s announcement).
Microsoft is Bringing Anthropic AI to Office 365

Microsoft will reportedly integrate Anthropic’s Claude models into Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, expanding beyond its previous reliance on OpenAI. According to The Information, Microsoft leaders believe Claude Sonnet 4 outperforms OpenAI in certain tasks, such as designing visually appealing PowerPoint slides. The move comes as Microsoft negotiates a new deal with OpenAI while also developing its own in-house models.

Sam Altman shared on X that bots have made it extremely difficult to know whether social media posts are written by real people. His comments came after noticing a flood of r/Claudecode posts where users claimed to be switching to OpenAI Codex from Claude Code. While acknowledging Codex’s strong growth, he admitted the posts felt manufactured, blaming a mix of LLM-speak, social media incentives, and possible astroturfing. Altman concluded that AI Reddit and AI Twitter now feel “very fake” compared to a year or two ago (see Altman’s full post).
