AI Taking Over Jobs and The Vanishing Tech Dream

Source: Federal Reserve Bank of New York

Fresh computer science graduates are facing unemployment rates of 6.1% to 7.5%, more than double those of biology, accounting, and art history majors. Despite entering one of the most tech-driven job markets in history, many are struggling, in part due to the very AI advancements their field helped create. That wasn’t the only pushback: backlash over the removal of older models led OpenAI to restore access to GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, and o3 for paid users. CEO Sam Altman also acknowledged criticism of GPT-5’s tone, promising a personality update to make it feel warmer. On the technical side, issues with the routing system have raised doubts about whether one model can truly replace several specialized ones (read more).
