π¨FEATURE STORY

Meet Walmart's AI Shopping Experience
Imagine walking into Walmart, asking a virtual assistant for party planning suggestions, and getting precisely curated lists based on your theme! With Walmart's new generative AI tools, this future isn't far.
From Corporate Efficiency to Customer Experience
Walmart, the retail powerhouse, isn't new to technological advancements. Just a few months ago, they introduced a generative AI tool for corporate employees, aiding them in tasks like document summaries and meeting preparations. Now, they've set their sights on enhancing the customer experience.
What Will AI Walmart Look Like?
In an age where e-commerce platforms and retailers are fiercely battling for customer attention, personalization and convenience are critical. Walmart faced the challenge of ensuring their customers not only find what they're looking for but also enjoy a unique, interactive shopping experience.
Coming soon to Walmart are a shopping assistant, AI-powered search, and an interior design tool. Although the specific AI models remain undisclosed, these innovations promise to elevate the shopping experience. The shopping assistant, set to launch soon, offers personalized interactions, answering questions, suggesting tailored product recommendations, and providing in-depth item information. Users will also soon enjoy direct question-based search functionality. Additionally, Walmart is developing an interior design assistant, combining generative AI with AR technology. Users will be able to upload room photos and receive instant design suggestions.
AI Becomes Shoppersβ Best Friend
These tools will transform the shopping landscape at Walmart. Instead of customers tediously searching for items, the AI understands the context and offers comprehensive product lists. The upcoming shopping assistant can even suggest party costumes or provide advice on the best electronics to buy, all based on your requests.
As Walmart continues to invest in generative AI, we can anticipate even more personalized, efficient, and immersive shopping experiences in the near future. And as other companies follow suit, this could mark the dawn of a new era in retail where AI plays a pivotal role in every transaction and interaction.
π QUICK BITES
Uber's Algorithmic Hurdle
Uber failed to comply with EU transparency rules in an Amsterdam District Court legal ruling involving two drivers whose accounts were terminated based on automated flags. The drivers sued Uber to obtain information about these automated decisions, which centered on the practice often referred to as 'robo-firing,' as opposed to human reviews. Additionally, Uber was unable to cap the β¬4,000 daily fines for ongoing non-compliance, resulting in fines that now exceed β¬584,000.
How To Make Robots Learn Faster!
Google DeepMind and 33 institutes launch Open X-Embodiment, a robotics database with over 500 skills and 150,000 tasks obtained from 22 robot types. The aim? Pave the way for adaptable, multi-tasking robots. While a diverse robot demonstration database is essential for training a versatile model, the scope of creating such a database exceeds the capacity of a single lab, as noted by DeepMind researchers.
Musk vs. SEC
The SEC is suing Elon Musk for his refusal to testify in an investigation regarding his 2022 Twitter stock purchase. Initially agreeing to testify on September 15th, Musk later declined due to objections, including the location. Despite the SEC's alternative options, Musk consistently refused. The SEC is now seeking court intervention to compel his testimony, further deepening his history of conflicts with the SEC, which also includes mandated legal review of specific Tesla-related tweets.
