AI Consumer Boom Is Still on the Horizon

Despite the rapid rise of general-purpose AI tools like ChatGPT, most AI startups still make their money selling to businesses rather than consumers. Founders told TechCrunch that many early consumer AI apps struggled to gain traction, as free models and built-in platform features made standalone apps less useful. The industry may be nearing a “mobile moment” for consumer AI, but smartphones may not be the best way to deliver always-on, context-aware assistance. As a result, startups are exploring new devices and focused AI products, from personal finance helpers to always-on tutors (see TechCrunch’s report).
Google’s New AI Assistant Delivers ‘Your Day’ by Email

Source: Google
Google is rolling out an experimental email-based AI assistant called CC through Google Labs. Powered by Gemini, CC connects to Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive to send a daily “Your Day Ahead” email summarizing tasks, calendar events, and key updates. Users can also email CC to add to-dos, save notes, or search for information. The assistant is currently limited to AI Pro and Ultra users in the U.S. and Canada using consumer Google accounts (see Google’s announcement here and join the waitlist here).
ChatGPT Images Just Got a Major Upgrade!

Source: OpenAI
OpenAI has released GPT Image 1.5, a faster image model that promises stronger instruction-following, more precise edits, and up to 4x quicker generation. The update brings better consistency across edits like facial expression, lighting, and color tone, and introduces a new “creative studio” style image workspace inside ChatGPT. The release comes as OpenAI intensifies competition with Google following recent gains by Gemini and other image models (see OpenAI’s announcement).
